Some of this ground was RAF Kings Cliffe, a Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces fighter station. The 20th Fighter Group flew from here, and the airfield stayed in use until 1959.
On 3rd October 1944 Major Glenn Miller and his orchestra played their last airfield hangar concert on this site. The memorial stands inside the park, a short walk from the lodges.
