Glenn Miller Memorial

Major Alton Glenn Miller

Whilst visiting Rockingham Forest Park why not take the time to visit the Glenn Miller memorial to learn more about him and the history here on our site.

The memorial is a triangular engraved metal plaque placed on a stone plinth. It is located on the concrete slab base of one of the former hangars on the lodge site and it marks the spot where Major Glenn Miller and his band put on a “hangar concert” on 3rd October 1944, their last public performance before the jazz musician disappeared on a cross-channel flight.

His disappearance remains a mystery to this day. He took off from RAF Twinwood on the 15th  of December 1944 on his way to Paris to prepare for another concert, we have lots more information on boards that have been placed around the memorial for you to read.

To access this please see map below, veer off the public footpath that goes through the centre of the park. Go down the bridleway which has been highlighted in yellow to the hanger base entrance.

To prevent off road vehicles and motorbikes driving down the bridleway and onto private land a gate has been placed at the end of the lane, for the safety of our guests and our resident wildlife.

We hope you find the site and information board as fascinating as we do, look out for the board that features an actual photo of the last concert from that night on one of our boards.
