Waste Management

General Waste

Where does the general waste from Rockingham Forest Park go?

General waste are items and rubbish from homes and businesses that can’t be recycled.

In the past general waste was typically sent to landfill sites and in some areas across the UK this is still the case.  We now have new ways to extract and recover the values from the waste material by recycling and turning it into energy.

Recycled Waste

Here at Rockingham our recycled cardboard gets taken to a recycling plant.

At the recycling plant it gets broken down and mixed with water.

The shredded material is poured into big tanks and mixed with water.  This process is known as pulping and this material can be used for new products.

Plastic is further separated into different grades, which is reprocessed into pellets which can create new plastic products.

Can, tins, aerosols and foil are seperated by material to create new products.

Electrical Items (WEE Regulations)

The term WEE (waste elecrical and electronic equipment) has become increasingly well known in the UK since the EU’s directive in 2007.

In short it is great news for the environment.

The simplest definition is or example, anything that has a plus or that uses a battery can be discarded.
