Gone Fishing!

Can I fish at Rockingham Forest Park?

If you have a valid fishing permit, you can fish at Oak Lake & Sessile Lake here at the Park.

Please see the below link for specifications on licencing.

We ask all anglers who have a valid rod licence that an unhooking mat is used at all times for the safety of our fish.

Please dispose of any unwanted fishing line and rubbish using the bins provided.

What fish are in our Lakes?

Our Lakes are plentiful with Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Roach & Rudd.  There are a few elusive orange Koi floating around too. See if you can catch them!

At the moment our fish are used to feeding on pellets and baits such as luncheon meat, sweetcorn, and cheese, however our fish love ‘little visitors’ and like to put on a display if you bring treats or leftovers for them.

We love our wildlife here and can often be found by Oak Lake at reception, chatting with and feeding the fish or the occasional Mallard and Swan that pops in to see us.

What’s the fishing like?

The lake can be quite weedy in areas which the carp especially love to hide in, and they’re often found under the hanging tree branches.

In the summer our maintenance team de-weeded the swims around the lake to create clear spots to fish on to help anglers from becoming snagged.

Float fishing with pellets just off the bottom is a popular method for catching carp.

We also have Sessile Lake on the park which is bigger than Oak Lake for those who prefer a larger fishing lake.

Our maintenance team check the lake regularly to remove any broken off rigs and line to ensure no harm is caused to the fish and the lake is kept clean and tidy.

Why not make a day of it!

What better way to pass the day and spend time with your keen angler, than to bring a picnic or hamper along to a remote spot, spread out a blanket and enjoy the tranquillity and fresh air surrounded by nature.

If you would like a hamper provided for your day, please contact Deb at the Bistro directly from your lodge phone ext 5090  where she has a variety of options available to suit most needs. ([email protected]

We look forward to seeing you soon.
