Carving the Way from Wood to Wildlife

Have you spotted our new addition by the Bistro outdoor seating?

We recently had a Rockingham Forest Totem Pole commissioned containing wildlife you may find in our ancient woodland during your stay.

At the top of the totem pole, you will see our soaring red kite, elegantly looking down on the twit-twoo owl, running rabbit, stealthy Mr Fox, scurrying squirrel and our adoring deer, along with our oak leaf.  We wanted to not only represent all that is Rockingham Forest Park but also represent the majestic trees that surround us in the Park.

Totem pole facts

Totem poles were originally built by Native American tribes living along the Northwest Pacific coast of North America.

Wooden towers were carved with images of animals and symbols, these were monuments to express the family’s status within their tribes.

When our Chairman said he would love to have a totem pole in the park, we turned to our tried and trusted wood carver Glyn Mould, who as per usual did not disappoint.

You will have noticed our beautiful cul-de-sac and lodge name plaques during your stay, these are all carved by Glyn’s fair hands.

Woodcarving with Glyn Mould

All the beautiful wooden signs situated around Landal Rockingham Forest have been hand carved by Glyn. He has worked for some of the country’s most important heritage sites, including the Palace of Westminster, Burghley House, and the Supreme Court. Fancy a go yourself? Glyn runs woodcarving workshops, visit Glyn’s website for more detail and to book your space.
